The Ultimate 10-Week Guitar Course
My name is Nik Tongue, in the late 90âs I spent two and a half years in America where I toured with Steve Vai during his âFire Gardenâ tour, the first two G3 tours (with Steve, Joe Satriani, Eric Johnson and Kenny Wayne Shepherd), studied at GIT (Hollywood, CA) and developed what I believe to be the ultimate, 10-week, intensive guitar course.
Iâve been teaching this system since, and all my students are amazed at how much they improve in a short period of time, regardless of previous ability, knowledge, or style. I, or my students, have not been able to find any one method or book that is so concise and efficient. Master musician Mike Keneally, formerly from the Frank Zappa, Dweezil Zappa, Steve Vai, and Joe Satriani bands and his own band BFD (Beer For Dolphins), has commented, âThe concepts behind his guitar course are rock solid, practical and imaginative... I look forward to learning from his course myselfâ. American publishing giant Hal Leonard has described my approach as: â...unique in its presentation and methodology.â
This approach to guitar playing is based on the foundations of music and is not stylistically dependent. It can be applied to rock, jazz, fusion, metal, country, pop, folk, funk, blues, etc.
If you want to:
â Master your guitar and, most importantly, feel, not just understand music
â Improvise freely in any key anywhere on the neck
â Play rhythm and lead, and learn to see them as one
â Practice less, learn faster and sound better
â Have the tools, ear and knowledge to play any piece of music (without TAB or YouTube)
â Understand what your favourite musicians are doing and make their licks and
tricks part of your repertoire, to use in any key, over any chord or progression
â Play by ear, jam easily and sound great even when you donât know the song
â Practice while at work, on the train, in bed, etc, and see real improvement
â Smash your creative boundaries and improve your songwriting
This course is designed for guitarists with an absolute minimum of 3 years of playing experience, but be assured, this is no beginner's course; it is intense regardless of your current ability (as evidenced by feedback from a wide range of experienced players).
Included are weekly video lessons (averaging 1.5 hours each) to be watched with your guitar in hand, along with weekly course notes, practice tables, and backing tracks.
Ultimately, music is something you need to feel, not think about. Let me take away the mysticism and reveal the simplicity of music so that you can concentrate on the feel and enjoyment of pure expression through your guitar.
âI came into the VG course with a Bachelor of Music, 13 years experience learning guitar, and a real problem with practising ... I have made particular improvements in my timing, chord voicings, aural skills and phrasing since becoming a student of Nik.â
 Christopher Hansford, B.Mus.
âThe beauty of this course is that you can be at any level and you will benefit.  The course allowed me to bring my previous knowledge and re-experience it with Nik's unique approach, exposing me to uncharted territory.â
Paul Hampton
âMy first thoughts were 'How can someone possibly teach me more about the guitar in ten weeks, than I had learnt in five years?'.  I learnt to play the guitar better than I ever thought I would.â
Peter Kakridas
âAfter years of tuition I had all the theory I needed in my head, but I couldnât use it in solos. All my licks sounded bad and modes were just more confusion. Nik put this in the right order and now itâs all too easyâ

The course is designed to be digested in its 10-week entirety. The 6 weeks are the absolute minimum to get the benefits of the subliminal training that occurs in the first 4 weeks. During Weeks 5 & 6, I introduce some pretty advanced concepts and ideas that your ears are finally ready to hear. I know this is a big claim, but considering the calibre of experienced players that have completed the course, I know it to be true. This statement will make more sense to you at the end of week 4, and really begin to consolidate by the end of week 6.
Upon completion of the 6-week Foundations Course, you will be invited to purchase the Advanced Course (weeks 7-10).

Once upon a time, I had a student who had been Abbey Road Studioâs session guitarist for five years. He was a fantastic guitarist and a classic example of an ear player who knows what to play, and what fits with various styles of music⊠but didnât understand the theory of âwhyâ and believed he was missing something because he kept playing the same stuff (even though it always âworkedâ). After class on Week 6, he shook my hand and said, âThanks, Nik, I wonât be coming to any more classes. Iâve learned everything I wanted to know.â
I replied,â Rod, I squeezed all my knowledge into 10 weeks. If you think the first six were good, just wait for the last four. If youâre not impressed, not âblown awayâ, Iâll return any extra payments, just make sure you return next weekâ
At the end of week 10, he vigorously shook my hand and said, âThank you SO much for encouraging me to stay. I could not have imagined we would cover all those topics and advanced conceptsâ
You donât know what you donât know until you do! Visionary Guitar, weeks 7-10, dives into this territory and is critical for expanding your playing prowess. Sometimes, the simplest timing change or âwrongâ chord addition to a song makes all the difference.
